So verbreitet sich nach der Informationsdiffusionstheorie der Gebrauch von Verhütungsmitteln unter Frauen in koreanischen Dörfern, das Verschreiben des Antibiotikums Tetracyclin unter Ärzten in Illinois und der Gebrauch von Handys überhaupt. Die kritische Masse ist übrigens der Wert, ab dem der Diffusionsprozess so beschleunigt ist, dass er selbsttragend ist, bis irgendwann alle Handys haben. Sie bringt eine Menge Mitläufer (early/late majority heissen sie wohl) hervor.
